This summer I had the privilege of interning at heidi elnora Atelier in Birmingham, AL as a bridal design intern. I spent most of my days in the production room cutting and sewing appliqués, making veils and creating patterns. My favorite part of production was getting to work on heirloom wedding dresses. Many brides would bring in their mom or grandmother's dress to rework or incorporate pieces of it into a new dress. Along with production, I got to assist with initial appointments and help brides create their dream dress. A wedding dress is the most special gown someone will ever purchase and I loved getting to be part of this process. This taught me so much about sales and working in a retail setting. I also got to help in the design processes of the newest collections. During a time of transition and expansion, this was truly a unique part of the internship that allowed me to contribute creatively and leave a lasting impression on the company. It was such an honor to learn from the heidi elnora team, and from Heidi herself, who has experienced so many different sides of the fashion industry, including a season of Project Runway, her reality show Bride By Design on TLC and 15 years in the bridal business.
